War Eagle from Room 842

My Mom is in the hospital.

She's been here since Thursday morning when I brought her with chest pains.

After a battery of tests, including a Heart Cath yesterday afternoon, we have ruled out a heart problem.

In fact, her heart is "perfect."

Awesome news for a 64 year-old female who was having chest pains radiating to her arm and jaw, shortness of breath, nausea and who just happens to have a family history of cardiac disease.

Pretty awesome indeed.

What we have found out is she is a diabetic. She is now on insulin and we have started the task of finding the right combination to control her glucose level.

She spiked a Temp last night and we are waiting on blood cultures to see if there's any type of bacteria in her blood.

She is on 2 different IV antibiotics and has had what seems like a constant stream of people drawing blood for various tests.

He plans on keeping her at least til Monday. Hopefully, by then, we will have all the results and a lot of answers.

I honestly think the chest pain may be because of esophogeal spasms and quite possibly she needs her esophagus dilated.

I'm not trying to play Doctor. l like to think of it as thinking outside the box.

=)

I mean seriously, I've had plenty of time to think. I've been here since her admission.

I have admitted the only thing worse than having a Nurse as a Patient is having a Nurse as the Daughter of a Patient.

Keep in mind I am a Nurse so I've been on both sides of this fence.

For the record, let me say I have been VERY, VERY good.

It is extremely difficult to be on this side of the fence and it's times like these I try to remember when I'm taking care of my own Patients.

We have had FABULOUS care. In fact, I couldn't have asked for better.

Let me assure you, I have sung their praises to everyone who will listen.

I know, from being on the other side of the fence, it is always nice to hear the positives of the care you're providing.

I hope she's better soon. I hate seeing her sick. I know she's ready to feel better and sleep in her own bed. I'm ready to sleep in my own bed too.

I will update later. I am about to watch my 1st ever Auburn game from a hospital room. Depending on how we play there may be two patients in this room. It might actually be a blessing in disguise we're on the Heart Floor.

War Eagle from Gadsden Regional Medical Center!

Love you MUCH!
